On a beautiful May day, more than 100 people gathered at the DeKalb County Fairgrounds to learn, network and share about the local food system for Auburn, Indiana. This event is the mid-way point in the Rebuilding Your Local Food System program that the Hometown Collaboration Initiative (HCI) Team is pursuing as part of their Placemaking choice for HCI. Farmers, business owners, food citizens, foundations, elected officials and non-profits spent time learning about current initiatives in the County, exploring the supply chain from farm to fork and sharing an amazing dinner with a tremendous amount of locally-sourced food!
The HCI team facilitated many small round table discussions to better understand the community perception of how local food can increase the quality of life in Auburn. The HCI team will now move forward to map the local food system assets in the community, and begin assembling a plan of action for a local food project for the community as part of the HCI Capstone Project.
